ROWETT CLIMBS TO SECOND OVERALL AFTER EPIC COMEBACK ON DAY TWO
REIJU FACTORY RACING RIDER ROSIE ROWETT REVELLED IN THE MUD ON DAY TWO AT THE THIRD ROUND OF THE ENDUROGP WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN BETTOLA TO SECURE SECOND SPOT AFTER A CRASH ON DAY ONE SCUPPERED HER CHANCES OF A PODIUM FINISH BY 15 SECONDS.
Bettola, Italy was the venue for the fourth round of the 2024 Paulo Duarte FIM EnduroGP
World Championship, opening with the Friday evening AKRAPOVIC Super Test, which took
place in a supermarket carpark! Racing was fast around the tight, technical test, made up
entirely of logs, with only eight seconds separating the top three. Rosie placed third, just
three seconds adrift of Badia.
Thousands of passionate Italian fans and scorching temperatures greeted the riders on day one, along with fast tests with some difficult extreme parts. So challenging was the POLISPORT Extreme Test that, on the first lap, it was ridden by the women as a tester to decide if the Women were able to ride safely or not at all but not timed due to its intense hill climbs and downhills. They did continue for the rest of the weekend doing the same lap as the Open class, with the option of two chicken runs if the riders found it difficult. Unfortunately, it was to become Rosie’s Achilles’ heel as she crashed out after taking a wrong line. Rosie battled hard all day to pull back some time but despite six second place test results,
she finished in fourth, just edged out of a podium finish by 15 seconds.
In stark contrast to day one, torrential overnight rain meant the tests for day two had to be
altered a lot but despite continuing heavy rain throughout the day, the fans still turned out in
their masses. The women only did five test due to the slippery, muddy conditions which Rosie
excelled in. Full of fresh determination, she gave it her all and finished the day in second
position, her joint highest finish this season, seeing her move into second place in the overall
standings.
Rosie Rowett Racing reacts to the third round of the FIM EnduroGP Women’s World
Championship in Bettola, Italy: ” What a weekend! On Saturday, we had an 8-hour day
with 12 tests in the heat. I felt good on the bike and was loving the cross test but a big
crash on the extreme left me playing catch up, ending p4. Sunday was completely different
conditions; with overnight rain, the tests got slick but I managed to pull some good times to
finish the day in 2nd place, leaving me 2nd in the championship.”
The fourth round of the EnduroGP Women’s World Championship picks back up at the GP
of Wales from 2nd – 4th August 2024.
